The university has been named as a mark of respect to the rebel poet Kazi Nazrul of India who is also the national poet of Bangladesh (died in Dacca, August 29, 1976). The KNU has been founded with a vision.

Qualification:
- Graduation of three years’ duration with Mathematics as a compulsory subject and MCA with First Class or equivalent with 2 years of relevant experience after acquiring degree of MCA.
OR - M.Tech in Computer Science/IT/Software Engineering/Data Science/AI/Electronics and Communication/ Concerned/Allied/Relevant branch of Engineering and Technology.
OR - MSc in IT / Computer Science with NET/SET
- PhD in relevant subjects
