The Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University (APAU) was established on 12 June 1964 at Hyderabad and was formally inaugurated on 20 March 1965 by Late Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, the then Prime Minister of India. The university’s building program was inaugurated by Late Smt Indira Gandhi on 23 June 1966.
In 1996, the university was renamed Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University in honor of Acharya Nayakulu Gogineni Ranga—an outstanding parliamentarian, educationist, kisan leader, and freedom fighter who dedicated his life to the welfare of farmers.
