The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) is one of India’s premier institutions of higher technical education and research.
The history of the IIT system dates back to 1946, when a committee was established by Hon’ble Sir Jogendra Singh, Member of the Viceroy’s Executive Council, Department of Education, Health and Agriculture, to consider the establishment of higher technical institutions for India’s post-war industrial development.
The 22-member committee headed by Sri N. R. Sarkar recommended the establishment of four higher technical institutions in the Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern regions, modeled in part on institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States.

Educational Qualification
Candidates applying for the Professional Trainee position should meet the following educational requirements:
- Postgraduate qualification.
- First Class in BLIS (Bachelor of Library and Information Science).
- First Class in MLIS (Master of Library and Information Science).
- Candidates should possess both BLIS and MLIS qualifications with First Class.
Age Limit
The candidate’s age should be:
Not more than 30 years.

Stipend
Selected Professional Trainees will receive a stipend of:
₹24,000/- per month
The training period will be for 12 months.
Important Training Condition
The entire stipend amount is refundable if the trainee leaves the training programme before completing the prescribed training period.
