Essential Qualifications

Candidates must satisfy the following requirements:

Master’s Degree

  • A Master’s degree in Labour Welfare with at least 55% marks, without rounding off or including grace marks, or an equivalent grade under a recognized grading system.
  • The degree must be from an Indian university or an equivalent qualification from an accredited foreign university.

NET / SET / SLET or Ph.D.

In addition to the Master’s degree, candidates must have cleared the UGC NET, CSIR NET, SLET/SET or another equivalent test accredited by the UGC, unless exempted under the applicable UGC Ph.D. regulations.

Ph.D. Exemption

Candidates may qualify for exemption from NET/SET/SLET under the applicable UGC provisions, including qualifying Ph.D. degrees awarded under the relevant UGC regulations.

For candidates registered for Ph.D. before 11th July 2009, the notification specifies conditions including:

  • Ph.D. awarded through regular mode.
  • Thesis evaluated by at least two external examiners.
  • Open Ph.D. viva voce conducted.
  • Two research papers published from the Ph.D. work, including at least one in a refereed journal.
  • At least two papers presented at eligible conferences or seminars.
  • Certification of these conditions by the Registrar or Dean (Academic Affairs) of the concerned university.

A Ph.D. from a foreign university ranked among the top 500 in QS, Times Higher Education or ARWU may also qualify for exemption under the specified rules.
