Organization Profile: The government of India launched a wave of scientific endeavors following independence, which included the development of a network of national laboratories between 1947 and 1955. It was a fortunate coincidence that an educated leader in the state of Uttar Pradesh was passionate about advancing the discipline of astronomy, which is the foundational field of many other basic sciences. Mainly, It was due to the initiative of the late Dr. Sampurnanand, cabinet Minister of Education, Uttar Pradesh and later the Chief Minister of the state, the Uttar Pradesh State Observatory (UPSO) came into existence.
