Organization Profile: In 1989, the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, founded the independent Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) to mark the centennial of Jawaharlal Nehru’s birth. President C. N. R. Rao, FRS, was the original founder.After the Center was founded as a society, renowned physicist and former DAE Chairman Dr. Raja Ramanna served as its first chairman.The University Grants Commission, Government of India, acknowledged the Center as an Institution Deemed to a University in 2002.Presently serving as the Center’s President is Professor Giridhar U. Kulkarni, while Professor V Ramgopal Rao serves as the chair of the Governing Council.
The Council of Management oversees all major activities of the Centre including granting of degrees, appointment of new faculty and initiation of new programmes. The Academic Advisory Committee (AAC) of the Centre monitors the teaching programmes and award of degrees. The institution is headed by the President and assisted by the Administrative Officer and other Officers who are in-charge of their respective departments. Four Deans oversee the activities of the Academic Section, Extension Programmes, Research and Development, and Faculty Affairs.
Designation:
Research Programmes [Ph.D./MS(Engg.)/MS(Research)] in Sciences and Engineering from candidates with M.Sc. or equivalent, BE/B.Tech/BS (4 year) or equivalent or ME/M.Tech. or equivalent or B.V.Sc./M.V.Sc. or MBBS/M.D. as applicable to individual Units. Candidates should have at least 55% marks in their highest University examination and should also have qualified in any one of the National exams: GATE/JEST/GPAT/UGC-JRF/CSIR- JRF/ICMR-JRF/DBT-JRF/ INSPIRE-JRF.
Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Chemistry with an option to specialize in Materials Chemistry or Chemical Biology or Energy. Applicants possessing a minimum of 55% marks at the Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science with Chemistry as one of the major subject are eligible to apply.
Master of Science (M.Sc.) Inter-Disciplinary Biosciences with an option to specialize in Epigenetics and Diseases, Neurosciences, Human Disease Genetics, or Chemical Biology approach to understanding Disease Biology and Drug discovery. Applicants possessing a minimum of 55% marks at the Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Biological Science with Chemistry as a significant subject and who have qualified for the Joint Admissions Test for Masters (JAM) 2024 and/or equivalent examination are eligible to apply.
Integrated Ph.D. Programmes in Physical Science, Chemical Science and Biological Science. Candidates should have a minimum of 55% marks at the Bachelor’s level. Those appearing in the final examination of their Bachelor’s degree this year may also apply. Candidates qualified in the Joint Admissions test for Masters (JAM) 2024 are encouraged to apply.
Post Graduate Diploma in Materials Science Candidates who have completed their M.Sc. in any branch of Science are eligible to apply.
