The Central Agricultural University (CAU) was established under the Central Agricultural University Act, 1992 (No.40 of 1992), which came into effect on 26th January 1993 through the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Government of India. The University became operational on 13th September 1993 with its headquarters in Imphal, Manipur.
CAU serves seven North-Eastern Hill States — Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, Nagaland, and Tripura — and aims to promote education, research, and extension activities in agricultural and allied sciences to uplift the region’s rural economy.
