Organization Profile

After India’s independence, the development of the rural sector and agricultural education became a priority for the Government of India. In 1949, the Radhakrishnan University Education Commission emphasized the need to establish rural universities focusing on agricultural education.

In 1954, an Indo-American team led by Dr. K.R. Damle (Vice-President of ICAR) proposed the establishment of a Rural University based on the land-grant model of the United States. This vision led to the creation of G. B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, one of the first agricultural universities in India.
