Organisation Profile: DR.R.K.Shanmugam Educational Institutions was founded in 1997 by highly esteemed doctors, engineers, and industrialists, with a true vision and mission to provide culturally-focused higher education to underprivileged students in the Villupuram District of Tamilnadu’s Kallakurichi and Kalvarayan Hills, established the DR.R.K.Shanmugam College of Arts & Science. It was the Villupuram District’s first coeducational institution.

The Sun God, the Ascending Garuda, the Book of Wisdom, and the Blossoming Lotus Flower are all revered together on the college crest. The college’s catchphrase is “WE CAN.”The college was founded with the intention of educating economically disadvantaged, rural, and tribal students who could only dream of an education.There were no higher education establishments among the 500 or so communities that make up Kallakurichi.  Additionally, we have separate dorms for boys and girls that provide a healthy diet at a reasonable price.

We provide trust educational scholarships for students who are physically or economically disadvantaged in addition to state and federal government scholarships. We are proud to report that our student Naveen Kumar participated in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi. 

Our goal is to give young people from rural areas access to higher education and to develop their potential to positively impact society, with a focus on women’s empowerment.
