Indian Institute of Technology Ropar, an Institute of National Importance, was established in 2008 by the Government of India (Ministry of Education). Located about 40 km northwest of Chandigarh, IIT Ropar’s permanent campus spans ~500 acres along the River Sutlej and holds a 5-Star GRIHA LD rating for sustainability.

Job Position

Assistant Professor – Grade I / Grade II

Educational Qualification & Pay Scale

🔹 Assistant Professor – Grade I

  • Ph.D. with First Class or equivalent in the preceding degree

  • Minimum 3 years post-Ph.D. teaching / research / professional experience (excluding Ph.D. period)

  • Proven research capability with publications in reputed journals and conferences

Pay Scale:

  • Academic Level 12: ₹1,01,500 – ₹1,67,400

    • Basic Pay: ₹1,01,500 per month

  • Eligible for movement to Academic Level 13A1 (₹1,31,400 – ₹2,04,700) after 3 years, subject to satisfactory performance and assessment committee recommendations

 Assistant Professor – Grade II

  • Candidates meeting all criteria except post-Ph.D. experience required for Grade I

  • Appointment based on postdoctoral experience, if any

Pay Scale Progression:

  • Academic Level 10: ₹57,700 – ₹98,200

    • Entry Basic Pay: ₹70,900 per month

  • Academic Level 11:

    • After 1 year post-Ph.D.: ₹84,800 per month

    • After 2 years post-Ph.D.: ₹87,300 per month

  • Eligible for movement to Assistant Professor Grade I (Level 12) upon meeting experience criteria and satisfactory performance
