TCG CREST (The Chatterjee Group – Centres for Research and Education in Science and Technology) is a multidisciplinary, research-intensive institution established in 2020. It was recently recognized by the Ministry of Education and UGC as a Deemed to be University in the Distinct Category—Research (Government of India Gazette No. 21, May 24–30, 2025).

Originally founded as five premier research centres in mathematical and natural sciences, TCG CREST has now evolved into a full-fledged university consisting of the following five Schools:

• Health, Environment and Sustainability Studies

• Economics

The University follows a reverse trajectory model, beginning with Ph.D. and Master’s programmes. Undergraduate programmes will commence after the first five years.

Eligibility Criteria – Faculty Positions

TCG CREST will follow UGC norms for faculty recruitment.

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. from a reputed university in the relevant or allied fields

• Strong research profile and peer-reviewed publications

• Experience in interdisciplinary academic work

• For Associate Professors & Professors:

  • Evidence of postgraduate teaching experience

  • Experience in Ph.D. supervision

• Interest in leading public projects and institutional collaborations

For Assistant Professors:

• Ph.D. submission in final stage may be considered

Eligibility Criteria – Postdoctoral Fellowships

• Fresh Ph.D. (preferably within the last 4–5 years)

• Academic publications and conference participation

• Ability to teach, supervise and guide projects

• An ongoing book project (preferably in the relevant fields) to be completed during the fellowship

• For Digital Humanities applicants:

  • Prior experience handling digital humanities projects

About the Programmes (Starting Aug–Sept 2026)

The School will launch Ph.D. programmes in:

• Art History and Visual Studies

• Cultural History and Cultural Studies

• Digital Humanities

The Ph.D. structure includes:

• Year 1: Coursework + Writing assignments

• End of Year 1: Research paper

• 3rd Semester: Ph.D. proposal preparation & defence

Students may optionally exit after Year 1 with a Master’s in Research (M.Res).
A two-year Master’s programme will begin afterward.
