The origins of Jadavpur University date back to 1910, when the Society for the Promotion of Technical Education in Bengal merged with the National Council of Education (NCE). The NCE subsequently oversaw the Bengal Technical Institute—later known as the College of Engineering and Technology, Bengal—which functioned with the status of a university by 1940.

Following Independence, the Government of West Bengal, with the concurrence of the Government of India, enacted legislation to formally establish Jadavpur University on 24th December 1955. Today, the university stands as one of India’s premier institutions known for excellence in teaching, research, and innovation.
