About the Project
The Department of Chemistry at NIT Srinagar invites applications for the position of Research Associate-I (RA-I) to work on an innovative research project titled:
“Coal to Chemical Sensors: Conversion of low-grade coal to carbon dots-based smart sensing strips for on-site monitoring of heavy metals in water bodies around coal fields”

This project aims to develop carbon-dots-based optical sensors for detecting heavy metals in water, combining nanotechnology, environmental science, and field research. The selected candidate will collaborate with NIT Srinagar, BCCL Dhanbad (Jharkhand), and NIT Jamshedpur, involving lab work, fieldwork, and interdisciplinary research.

Eligibility & Desirable Qualifications

Ph.D. in Science/Engineering (Chemistry, Nanotechnology, Materials Science, or related fields).

Expertise in nanomaterial synthesis (carbon dots) and optical sensor development.

Prior research experience in fluorescence-based sensors for environmental monitoring.

Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.

Candidates from SC/ST categories with relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

Synthesize and characterize carbon-dots-based sensors for heavy metal detection.

Conduct field visits to coal fields (BCCL Dhanbad) for sample collection.

Collaborate with teams at NIT Srinagar and NIT Jamshedpur for analytical work.

Publish findings in high-impact journals and present at conferences.

Assist in project documentation and reporting to the Ministry of Coal.
