Panjab University, Chandigarh, invites applications for the position of Project Research Scientist-I (Non-Medical) for an ICMR-funded research project on vaccine development for visceral leishmaniasis, as well as a Project Research Scientist-II (Non-Medical) role in a telehealth screening project for non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Position Details

    • Scientist-I: As per ICMR norms

    • Scientist-II: ₹67,000 per month + 18% HRA

  • Duration: 1 year (extendable based on performance and project requirements)

Research Projects

  1. Vaccine Development for Visceral Leishmaniasis

    • Project Title: “Establishment of vaccine candidate underpinning TLR and NLR dependent regulation of the immune response in visceral leishmaniasis”

    • Supervisors:

      • Dr. Deepak B. Salunke (Dept. of Chemistry)

      • Prof. Sukhbir Kaur (Dept. of Zoology)

    • Research Focus: Immunology, vaccine design, molecular biology, and host-pathogen interactions.

  2. Telehealth for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)

    • Project Title: “Tele-Health Screening and Management for Non-Communicable Diseases”

    • Host Department: University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Sector-25

    • Research Focus: Digital health solutions, AI in healthcare, and remote patient monitoring.

Eligibility Criteria

For Project Research Scientist-I (Vaccine Development Project)

  • Essential Qualifications:

    • First-class Postgraduate degree (M.Sc./M.Tech/M.Pharm) in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemistry, or related fields.

    • OR Second-class PG degree + PhD with 3 years of research experience.

    • Engineering/IT/CS candidates: First-class 4-year Bachelor’s degree (B.Tech/B.E.) + 3 years of experience.

For Project Research Scientist-II (Telehealth NCD Project)

  • Similar qualifications as above, with preference given to candidates with:

    • Experience in public health, digital health, or biomedical engineering.

    • Strong data analysis and programming skills (Python, R, MATLAB).

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory and field research on leishmaniasis/NCDs.

  • Design and execute experiments, data collection, and analysis.

  • Publish research findings in reputed journals and present at conferences.

  • Assist in grant writing, project documentation, and reporting.

  • Mentor junior researchers and supervise project assistants.

  • Frequent travel may be required for fieldwork across India.
