Organization Profile: Little did the visionary Shri Somasundara Sastry know when he established a school for females in Kanchipuram in 1904 that one day his institution would become like a banyan tree, sending forth new educational roots from its branches to grow into sturdy trunks. Establishing a school here seemed somewhat appropriate given the nature of Kanchipuram, the town. However, looking back, opening a school for girls in 1904 seems like a brave effort motivated by the desire to elevate knowledge over long-held stereotypes and to support Winston Churchill’s assertion that a man is only as great as his choices.
