The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 and is a Deemed-to-be University, fully funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Government of India.

TISS is a NAAC Grade ‘A’ (Grade I) University and was ranked 60th in the NIRF University Rankings (2022). The institute has four campuses located at Mumbai (main campus), Hyderabad, Guwahati, and Tuljapur (rural campus).

TISS currently offers 05 Undergraduate, 54 Master’s, 18 Ph.D., and 34 Bachelor of Vocational (B.Voc.) programmes across socially relevant and interdisciplinary domains of applied social sciences.

Essential Qualifications

A. Indian University Route

  1. Master’s degree with minimum 55% marks (or equivalent grade) in
    Psychology / Applied Psychology from a recognized Indian university
    OR equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university

  2. Must have cleared UGC-NET / CSIR-NET / SLET / SET,
    OR awarded a Ph.D. degree as per UGC Regulations 2009 / 2016 (and amendments)

👉 NET exemption for Ph.D. holders (registered prior to 11 July 2009) is applicable subject to fulfillment of UGC conditions including:

  • Regular mode Ph.D.

  • Evaluation by at least two external examiners

  • Open viva voce

  • Minimum two research publications (at least one refereed journal)

  • Minimum two conference presentations sponsored by UGC / ICSSR / CSIR or similar agencies

  • Certification by the Registrar or Dean (Academic Affairs)

👉 NET/SLET/SET not required for disciplines where such tests are not conducted.

OR

B. Foreign University Route

  • Ph.D. degree from a foreign university ranked among Top 500 globally by any one of:

    • QS World University Rankings

    • Times Higher Education (THE)

    • Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU – Shanghai Ranking)

💰 Consolidated Salary: ₹86,088/- per month
