About SVNIT Surat
Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat was established in 1961 as Sardar Vallabhbhai Regional College of Engineering & Technology (SVRCET), one of the Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs) created to provide technical education.
The institute initially offered Bachelor’s degree programmes in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. In 2002, SVRCET was granted the status of a Deemed University and renamed Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat. Following the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007, the institute was granted the status of an Institution of National Importance with effect from 15 August 2007.
