Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) has invited applications for a JRF/Ph.D. position sponsored by DRDO under a research project in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering. The project focuses on the thermo-kinetic analysis of filler/Ni-based superalloy interfaces developed during vacuum brazing. Eligible candidates with postgraduate qualifications in materials engineering, metallurgy, materials science, nanoscience, energy science, chemistry, or physics can apply online before 24 August 2026.

About IIT Hyderabad

Research Project

The selected candidate will work on the DRDO-sponsored project titled “Thermo-kinetic Analysis of filler/Ni-based superalloy interface formed during vacuum brazing.”

The research will focus on understanding the thermo-kinetic behaviour and interface characteristics of filler materials and nickel-based superalloys during vacuum brazing. The project provides an opportunity for candidates interested in advanced materials, metallurgy, materials characterization, and computational materials science.

The duration of the project is three years. Candidates should also be willing to register for a Ph.D. at IIT Hyderabad, subject to the applicable institute rules and eligibility requirements.

Essential Qualification

Candidates should possess one of the following qualifications:

  • M.Tech. in Materials Engineering
  • M.Tech. in Metallurgy
  • M.Tech. in Materials Science and Engineering
  • M.Tech. in Nanoscience and Technology
  • M.Tech. in Energy Science and Technology
  • M.Sc. in Chemistry with a valid GATE/CSIR score and relevant background
  • M.Sc. in Physics with a valid GATE/CSIR score and relevant background
  • M.Sc. in Materials Science with a valid GATE/CSIR score and relevant background

Applicants should have an academic background relevant to the research area.

Desirable Qualifications

Candidates with a background or experience in CALPHAD and/or materials characterization will be preferred.

Applicants should also demonstrate a willingness to pursue or register for a Ph.D. in the relevant research area.

Knowledge of advanced materials characterization techniques, computational thermodynamics, metallurgy, brazing, superalloys, or related areas may be beneficial for the project.

Fellowship

The selected candidate will receive the following fellowship:

  • JRF: ₹37,000 per month during the 1st and 2nd years.
  • SRF: ₹42,000 per month during the 3rd year.
  • HRA: 30% of the applicable fellowship, as per the project/institute norms.

The fellowship structure may be subject to applicable DRDO and IIT Hyderabad rules and successful progression from JRF to SRF.

Selection Process

Eligible applications will be screened and shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. The interview is tentatively scheduled for 31 August 2026 and may be conducted in either offline or online mode.
