IIT Indore Recruitment 2026
IIT Indore invites applications from eligible candidates for the positions of Research Associate (RA) and Technical Assistant (TA) for a research project focused on the high-value utilization of steel slag for strategic construction applications.
The project aims to exploit the physical and material characteristics of steel slag and develop an industry-ready dynamic utilization framework. The proposed framework will incorporate material characterization, rapid assessment, machine learning-based process optimization, decarbonization-based preconditioning and multi-objective utilization strategies.

1. Research Associate
Essential Qualification
Candidates should possess either:
- Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry; OR
- ME/M.Tech/MS in the above-mentioned disciplines with 3 years of research, teaching, or design and development experience and at least one research paper published in an SCI-indexed journal.
Desirable Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Good knowledge of slag recycling or concrete technology.
- Experience in the steel industry.
- NET/GATE qualification in the relevant area.
Stipend
₹58,000 per month + HRA as per the funding agency.
Ph.D. Opportunity
Selected Research Associate candidates who possess only a Master’s degree may be considered for admission to a regular full-time Ph.D. programme at IIT Indore, subject to applicable Institute norms.
2. Technical Assistant
Essential Qualification
- First Class B.Sc., or
- 3-Year Diploma in Engineering & Technology.
Desirable Qualification
Experience in:
- Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs).
- Research laboratories.
- Relevant industrial organizations.
Stipend
₹20,000 per month + HRA as per the funding agency.
Project Overview
The research project focuses on developing high-value applications for steel slag as a raw material in strategic construction applications.
The study will investigate variations in the chemical and mineral composition of steel slag and develop a dynamic framework that can support:
- Characterization-based rapid assessment.
- Machine learning for process optimization.
- Decarbonization-based preconditioning.
- Multi-objective material utilization.
- Industry-ready steel slag utilization strategies.
Duration of Appointment
The initial appointment will be for one year.
The appointment may be extended further based on the candidate’s performance and the duration of the project.
Selection Process
Candidates will be shortlisted based on their qualifications, academic record, experience and relevance to the project.
Only shortlisted candidates will be informed by email regarding the in-person interview.
No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
