Experience Requirements
Professor
- Minimum 10 years of teaching/research/industrial experience.
- At least 4 years of experience at the level of Associate Professor or equivalent.
Associate Professor
- Minimum 6 years of teaching/research/industrial experience.
- At least 3 years at the level of Assistant Professor or equivalent.
Assistant Professor Grade I
- Ph.D. in the relevant discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of post-Ph.D. teaching/research/industrial experience.
Assistant Professor Grade II
Candidates who possess the required academic qualifications but do not yet satisfy the prescribed post-Ph.D. experience requirement for Assistant Professor Grade I may be considered for Assistant Professor Grade II, subject to IIT Jammu norms.

Career Progression
Assistant Professor Grade I
After completing three years of service in Academic Level 12, an Assistant Professor Grade I may become eligible for movement to Academic Level 13A1 (₹1,31,400–₹2,04,700), subject to satisfactory performance and the recommendation of the Assessment Committee.
Assistant Professor Grade II
An Assistant Professor Grade II may be moved to Assistant Professor Grade I – Academic Level 12 after fulfilling the minimum experience requirements and demonstrating satisfactory teaching and research performance.
Visiting and Retired Professor Positions
IIT Jammu also invites applications for:
- Visiting Professor – Contract or Deputation
- Retired Professors from CFTIs – Contract Basis
Remuneration and institutional support for these positions will be provided according to IIT Jammu regulations.
Rolling Advertisement and Application Cycles
This is an open rolling advertisement, so there is no fixed last date for submitting an application.
