Assam University came into existence in 1994 following the enactment of the Assam (Central) University Act, 1989. The university is working towards establishing itself as an institute of excellence.

Educational Qualification
Candidates should possess a Master’s degree with 55% marks or an equivalent grade in a point-scale system in the concerned, relevant or allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
In addition, candidates must have cleared the UGC NET, CSIR NET, or a similar test accredited by the UGC such as SET.
Candidates who have been awarded a Ph.D. in accordance with the applicable UGC Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree Regulations, 2009 or 2016 and subsequent amendments may be exempted from the NET/SET requirement.
Ph.D. Candidates Registered Before 11 July 2009
Candidates registered for a Ph.D. before 11 July 2009 may be exempted from NET/SET subject to the conditions specified in the notification, including:
- Ph.D. degree awarded through regular mode.
- Ph.D. thesis evaluated by at least two examiners.
- Open Ph.D. viva voce conducted.
- Two research papers published from the Ph.D. work, with at least one in a refereed journal.
- At least two papers presented based on the Ph.D. work at conferences/seminars sponsored, funded or supported by UGC/ICSSR/CSIR or a similar agency.
The notification states that fulfillment of these conditions should be certified by the Registrar or Dean (Academic Affairs) of the concerned university.
NET/SET is also not required for Master’s programmes in disciplines where NET/SET is not conducted by UGC, CSIR or a similar UGC-accredited examination.
Foreign Ph.D. Qualification
Candidates holding a Ph.D. from a foreign university/institution ranked among the top 500 in world university rankings may also qualify, based on any one of:
- Quacquarelli Symonds (QS)
- Times Higher Education (THE)
- Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University
Honorarium
The selected Guest Faculty will receive:
₹1,500 per lecture, subject to a maximum ceiling of ₹50,000 per month.
Walk-In Interview
A Walk-In Interview will be conducted for the engagement of one Guest Faculty (01-SC) on a purely temporary basis.
