The 1973 Six-Point Formula served as the foundation for the establishment of the university. Gurbaksh Singh, an organic chemist at Banaras Hindu University, served as the institution’s first vice-chancellor from 1974 to 1979. The university’s first chancellor was Shri B D Jatti. The President of India presented the University of Hyderabad with the Visitor’s Award for the Best Central University in India in January 2015.

In 1920, following World War I, Port Blair’s Middle School was elevated to a High School, offering instruction in English and being associated with Rangoon University. Later on, this institution was elevated to the rank of high school, offering English as its primary language of instruction along with Urdu as a major. At that time, Rangoon University had an affiliation with the Port Blair High School. There used to be two public exams: one at the conclusion of the seventh grade and another at the conclusion of the tenth grade. A distinct primary school for girls was established in 1922 but was later discontinued. Following Burma’s independence from India in 1936, Punjab University became the High School’s affiliated university. In Car Nicobar.
