Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering (DCE), an autonomous institution and an offshoot of the Dhanalakshmi Education Trust, was established near Tambaram, Chennai, during 2001–2002. The institution was founded through the vision of eminent academician and former Anna University Professor Dr. V.P. Ramamurthi.

The college is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, and affiliated with Anna University, Chennai.
