Position Summary

The Director – Student Affairs is responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously strengthening a comprehensive student wellbeing ecosystem that promotes academic success, emotional resilience, professional conduct, and holistic development.

The position requires an experienced leader capable of handling sensitive student matters, counselling interventions, crisis management, behavioural guidance, and wellbeing programs while ensuring alignment with institutional values and regulatory requirements.

The Director will collaborate closely with Academic Leadership, Human Resources, Student Affairs, Residential Life, and Campus Administration teams. The position reports directly to the Vice Chancellor.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership – Student Welfare & Wellbeing

  • Develop and implement the University’s Student Welfare Strategy.
  • Establish structured student support systems for academic and personal wellbeing.
  • Design early intervention mechanisms for identifying at-risk students.
  • Develop policies related to student welfare, conduct, grievances, and behavioural standards.
  • Present welfare and wellbeing reports to university leadership.

2. Student Counselling & Psychological Support

  • Establish and supervise professional counselling services.
  • Provide oversight for:
    • Academic stress counselling
    • Personal counselling
    • Behavioural counselling
    • Crisis intervention support
    • Emotional wellbeing programs
  • Handle sensitive and complex counselling cases when required.
  • Ensure confidentiality and ethical counselling practices.
  • Build referral networks with mental health professionals and healthcare providers.
  • Conduct awareness programs on mental health and emotional wellbeing.

3. Training & Development Programs

  • Conduct faculty development programs on mentoring and student engagement.
  • Organize orientation sessions for new employees.
  • Design behavioural training programs for wardens, mentors, and student-facing staff.
  • Coordinate with the Human Resources department for training initiatives.

4. Student Mentorship & Support Systems

  • Oversee academic and non-academic mentorship programs.
  • Strengthen faculty-student mentoring mechanisms.
  • Develop peer mentoring initiatives.
  • Monitor student engagement and intervention requirements.
  • Create life-skills development programs focusing on:
    • Adaptability
    • Professional behaviour
    • Time management
    • Communication skills
    • Responsible citizenship

5. Student Grievance & Disciplinary Support

  • Lead student grievance redressal mechanisms.
  • Ensure fair and transparent resolution processes.
  • Serve as a neutral authority in sensitive student matters.
  • Support disciplinary committees when behavioural interventions are needed.
  • Promote corrective and developmental approaches to student discipline.

6. Campus Climate & Culture Development

  • Build a respectful, inclusive, and safe campus environment.
  • Promote diversity, inclusion, and student belonging initiatives.
  • Conduct campus climate assessments.
  • Improve student satisfaction, engagement, and retention.
  • Promote responsible digital and social conduct.

7. Crisis Management & Student Risk Intervention

  • Lead student emergency response mechanisms.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders during crisis situations.
  • Develop student safety and risk management protocols.
  • Provide post-incident counselling support.
  • Establish escalation procedures for critical student situations.

Preferred Candidate Profile

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Experience in student affairs, counselling, higher education administration, or related domains.
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Deep understanding of student wellbeing and campus engagement practices.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters professionally.
