Recruitment 2026 – Overview

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), Jamia Nagar, New Delhi has invited applications for faculty and academic positions across its Faculty of Engineering & Technology and University Polytechnic.

The recruitment includes Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor positions in departments such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering, Environmental Science and Applied Sciences & Humanities. Positions are also available in the University Polytechnic for Principal, Head of Section and Assistant Professors in various engineering and science subjects.

Educational Qualification & Eligibility

Professor – Engineering Departments

For Professor positions in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics & Communication and Computer Engineering, candidates should possess:

• Ph.D. degree in the relevant field.
• First Class or equivalent at either Bachelor’s or Master’s level in the relevant branch.
• Minimum 10 years of teaching/research/industry experience.
• At least 3 years of experience at a post equivalent to Associate Professor.
• At least 6 research publications at the Associate Professor level in SCI journals / UGC / AICTE-approved journals and at least 2 successfully guided Ph.D. scholars as Supervisor/Co-supervisor; OR
• At least 10 research publications at the Associate Professor level in SCI journals / UGC / AICTE-approved journals.

Professor – Environmental Science

Candidates must satisfy either of the following routes:

Route A

• Ph.D. in Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Environmental Science & Management and Engineering or concerned/allied/relevant discipline.
• High-quality published research work.
• At least 10 research publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals.
• Research score of 120 as prescribed under UGC Appendix II, Table 2.
• Minimum 10 years of teaching experience as Assistant Professor.
• At least 3 years at a level equivalent to Associate Professor/Professor.
• Evidence of successfully guiding a doctoral candidate.

Route B

An outstanding professional with:

• Ph.D. in the relevant area from an academic institution/industry.
• Significant contribution to the field supported by documentary evidence.
• 10 years of experience.

Associate Professor Eligibility

Civil / Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics & Communication / Computer Engineering

Candidates should have:

• Ph.D. in the relevant field.
• First Class or equivalent at either Bachelor’s or Master’s level in the relevant branch.
• At least 6 research publications in SCI journals / UGC / AICTE-approved journals.
• Minimum 8 years of teaching/research/industry experience.
• At least 2 years of post-Ph.D. experience.

Associate Professor – Chemistry

Candidates should have:

• Good academic record.
• Ph.D. in the concerned/allied/relevant discipline.
• Master’s degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade.
• Minimum 8 years of teaching/research experience equivalent to Assistant Professor.
• At least 7 publications in peer-reviewed/UGC-listed journals.
• Research score of 75 as per UGC Appendix II, Table 2.

Assistant Professor Eligibility

Civil / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering

Candidates should possess:

• B.E./B.Tech./B.S. in the relevant branch, and
• M.E./M.Tech./M.S. or Integrated M.Tech. in the relevant branch,
• With First Class or equivalent in any one of the degrees.

This category also covers the Machine Design / Production Design position in Mechanical Engineering.

Assistant Professor – Chemistry

Candidates may qualify through either of the following routes:

Route A

• Master’s degree in Chemistry / Environmental Sciences or relevant/allied discipline, as specified.
• Minimum 55% marks.
• Qualified UGC/CSIR NET or equivalent SLET/SET.
• Certain Ph.D. holders may be exempt from NET subject to the specified conditions.

Route B

• Ph.D. obtained from a foreign university/institution ranked among the top 500 according to QS/THE/ARWU.

Desirable: Chemistry for the relevant post or Biology for the specified post at UG level.

Assistant Professor – Mathematics

Candidates may qualify through:

Route A

• Master’s degree in Mathematics with 55% marks in the concerned/relevant/allied subject.
• Qualified UGC/CSIR NET or equivalent SLET/SET.
• Certain Ph.D. holders may be exempt subject to the specified conditions.

Route B

• Ph.D. from a foreign university/institution ranked among the top 500 according to QS/THE/ARWU.

Desirable: Computer Programming as a subject at UG or PG level.

Assistant Professor – General Environmental Science

Candidates may qualify through either:

Route A

• M.Tech. in Environmental Engineering / Environmental Science & Management / Environmental Science & Engineering or concerned/allied/relevant discipline.
• Minimum 55% marks.
• Qualified UGC/CSIR NET or equivalent SLET/SET.
• Applicable Ph.D. exemptions may be considered according to the specified conditions.

Route B

• Ph.D. from a foreign university/institution ranked among the top 500 according to QS/THE/ARWU.

Desirable: Ph.D. with specialization in Environmental Science, Engineering or Management from an Indian or accredited foreign university.

University Polytechnic Eligibility

Principal – University Polytechnic

Candidates should possess either:

Route 1:

• Ph.D.
• First Class at Bachelor’s or Master’s level in the relevant discipline.
• Minimum 16 years of teaching/research/industry experience.
• At least 3 years of post-Ph.D. experience.
• At least 5 years of experience not below the level of HoD/HoS.

OR

Route 2:

• First Class at Bachelor’s or Master’s level.
• Minimum 20 years of experience.
• At least 5 years of experience not below the level of HoD/HoS.

Head of Section – Civil Engineering

Candidates should possess either:

• Ph.D. in the relevant field and First Class at Bachelor’s or Master’s level, with minimum 12 years of experience, including at least 2 years post-Ph.D. at the level of Lecturer (Selection Grade-I).

OR

• Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree with minimum 15 years of experience, including at least 3 years at the level of Lecturer (Selection Grade-II).

Assistant Professor – Physics, University Polytechnic

Candidates may qualify through:

• Master’s degree with 55% marks in the concerned/relevant/allied subject and UGC/CSIR NET or equivalent SLET/SET, subject to applicable Ph.D. exemptions.

OR

• Ph.D. obtained from a foreign university/institution ranked among the top 500 according to QS/THE/ARWU.

Application Process

Jamia Millia Islamia has prescribed a two-stage application process involving both online submission and hard-copy submission.

Step 1 – Online Application

Candidates must submit the application online through the CU-Chayan portal along with the prescribed application fee.
