About NUALS

The National University of Advanced Legal Studies was established through Act 27 of 2005 of the Kerala State Legislature. The National Institute for Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), which was established by the Bar Council of Kerala Trust in 2002, was merged with NUALS under the same Act.

An amendment in 2008 streamlined the powers and functions of the University’s authorities and strengthened the involvement of the Government of Kerala. NUALS is recognized by the University Grants Commission under Sections 2(f) and 12B of the UGC Act and is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Professor Vacancy

Applications are invited for the position of Professor in Law. The appointment is permanent and will be made according to the applicable university and UGC norms.

The position is suitable for eminent scholars, experienced law academics, researchers, and outstanding professionals who meet the prescribed qualifications and experience requirements.

Essential Qualification – Academic Route

Candidates applying through the academic route should satisfy the following requirements:

Educational Qualification

Applicants should be an eminent scholar holding a Ph.D. degree in the concerned, allied, or relevant discipline.

Candidates should have published high-quality research work and should be actively engaged in research.

Applicants must have evidence of published research consisting of at least 10 research publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals.

Candidates should also have a total research score of 120, calculated according to the criteria prescribed under Appendix II, Table 2 of the UGC Regulations, 2018.

Teaching and Research Experience

Applicants should possess a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience in a University or College as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.

Alternatively, equivalent-level research experience at a University or National-Level Institution may be considered.

Candidates should also have evidence of successfully guiding doctoral candidates.

Alternative Route – Outstanding Professional

Outstanding professionals may also be eligible under the alternative qualification route.

Such candidates should possess a Ph.D. degree in the relevant, allied, or applied disciplines from an academic institution or industry not covered under the academic route.

They should have made significant contributions to knowledge in the concerned, allied, or relevant discipline, supported by documentary evidence.

Candidates applying through this route should have 10 years of relevant experience.

Salary

The selected Professor will be placed at:

Academic Level 14

with a rationalized entry pay of ₹1,44,200 per month in the UGC scale of pay.

Other applicable allowances and benefits will be governed by the University’s rules and applicable regulations.

How to Apply

Interested and eligible candidates should download the prescribed application form from the official NUALS website.

Candidates are required to submit three sets of soft-bound hard copies of the completed application. The application should include an index page, and all pages should be serially numbered.

Applicants must also include the prescribed registration fee and self-attested copies of documents supporting:

  • Age
  • Caste/community, wherever applicable
  • Educational qualifications
  • Teaching/research experience
  • Other relevant credentials and claims

The completed application must reach the Registrar on or before 03 September 2026.

In addition to the hard copies, applicants must send a soft copy of the application by email to:

The scanned application should be a clear colour-scanned single PDF file, with a maximum file size of 20 MB and a minimum resolution of 100 DPI. The soft copy should follow the exact same order as the hard-copy application.

Applicants should not use mobile-camera photographs in place of properly scanned documents.
