The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) is inviting applications from Indian nationals for one Research Associate-I (PDF) position in the Department of Hydrology.
The position is associated with the sponsored research project titled “Comprehensive Hydrological Assessment of Impacts of Climate Change on Water Resources in Sone River Basin.” The project is sponsored by DoWR, RD&GR, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India.

About the Research Project
The project “Comprehensive Hydrological Assessment of Impacts of Climate Change on Water Resources in Sone River Basin” focuses on assessing the impacts of climate change on meteorological processes and hydrology of the Sone River basin.
The Research Associate-I will be involved in activities related to hydrological and climate-data analysis, modelling, field investigations and dissemination of research findings.
Educational Qualification
Candidates should possess:
- Ph.D. in Hydrology, or
- Ph.D. in Water Resources Engineering, or
- Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, or
- Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering
Additionally, candidates should have an engineering background at the Master’s level, such as M.Tech. or M.E.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Candidates are expected to have knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Handling large datasets, including satellite, hydro-meteorological and climate data.
- GIS and multispectral remote-sensing data processing and analysis.
- Hydrological models such as:
- SWAT
- VIC
- WEAP
- Big-data handling and APIs.
- Google Earth Engine.
- Machine-learning algorithms.
- Programming in:
- R
- Python
- MATLAB
- Hydro-meteorological field data collection.
- Field surveys and investigations.
- Preparation of research papers, patents and technical reports.
Research Publication Requirement
Candidates should have at least one published journal paper on a relevant topic in a Q1 journal.
Salary
The selected candidate will receive:
₹58,000 per month + HRA, as applicable.
Appointment Duration
The appointment will continue up to the completion of the project, which is tentatively scheduled for January 2028.
