IISER Bhopal Faculty Vacancy 2026

1. Assistant Professor Grade I

Pay Level: 12
Initial Pay: ₹1,01,500 per month

Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in the relevant discipline, First Class or equivalent in the preceding degree, appropriate specialization and an excellent academic record. Applicants should demonstrate outstanding research ability and academic potential.

Candidates having at least three years of post-Ph.D. industrial, research or teaching experience may be considered, subject to the applicable recruitment requirements.

Candidates with a relevant Ph.D. and three years of regular service at Pay Level 12 may also be considered for placement at Pay Level 13A1, subject to performance evaluation and applicable rules.

2. Associate Professor

Pay Level: 13A2
Initial Pay: ₹1,39,600 per month

Candidates applying for Associate Professor should possess a Ph.D. in the relevant discipline, First Class or equivalent in the preceding degree and an excellent academic record. Applicants should have a proven record of excellent research ability and leadership.

A minimum of six years of teaching/research experience is required, including at least three years at the level of Assistant Professor Grade-I, Senior Scientific Officer or Senior Design Engineer, as applicable.

Eligibility and Other Conditions

The prescribed qualifications should have been obtained through regular courses from recognized universities or institutions. IISER Bhopal may consider relaxation in age, qualification and/or experience for exceptionally meritorious candidates with approval of the competent authority.

The desirable age is stated as 35 years, with applicable relaxation according to Government of India guidelines. Reservation will be applicable as per Government of India norms.

The positions are open to Indian Nationals and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI). Women and candidates from other underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.

Faculty Responsibilities

Selected faculty members will contribute to the academic and research activities of IISER Bhopal. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses, developing academic programmes, conducting independent research, publishing research findings, guiding students and research scholars, developing externally funded research projects and building national and international collaborations.

Faculty members will also participate in seminars, workshops, conferences, departmental activities and institutional academic initiatives.

Salary, Benefits and Perquisites

In addition to the prescribed basic pay, selected faculty members may receive benefits under IISER Bhopal and Government of India rules. These may include DA, HRA and TA, residential accommodation subject to availability, NPS benefits, professional development support, conference and professional membership support, telephone/mobile/broadband reimbursement, LTC, Children Education Allowance and medical reimbursement as applicable.

The recruitment details also provide for moving expense support, subject to applicable conditions and documentary requirements.

Selection Process

The selection process involves departmental and institute-level screening. Applications are initially evaluated by the Departmental Faculty Affairs Committee (DFAC) based on overall suitability. Seminar performance and inputs from departmental faculty members may also be considered.

Recommendations are subsequently reviewed by the Institute Faculty Affairs Committee (IFAC). Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. Candidates are generally required to appear in person, while candidates residing outside India may be permitted to attend online subject to institute conditions.
