Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), established by an Act of Parliament in 1985, invites applications for Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor positions on a direct recruitment basis. Vacancy Details and Qualifications
Professor
For most disciplines, candidates must satisfy Eligibility A or B.
Eligibility A: A Ph.D. in the concerned/allied/relevant discipline along with high-quality published research, at least 10 research publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals and a research score of 120. Candidates should also have at least 10 years of teaching and/or equivalent research experience and evidence of successfully guiding doctoral candidates.
Eligibility B: An outstanding professional with a Ph.D. in the relevant/allied/applied discipline and significant contribution to the concerned field, supported by documentary evidence, with 10 years of experience.
For Health Sciences and Nursing, separate qualifications and experience requirements apply. Nursing Professor candidates require a Master’s degree in Nursing with at least 55% marks and a minimum of 14 years of teaching experience after M.Sc. Nursing.
Associate Professor
For specified disciplines, candidates require:
- Ph.D. in the concerned/allied/relevant discipline
- Master’s degree with at least 55% marks
- Minimum 8 years of teaching/research experience
- At least 7 publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals
- Research score of 75 as per the prescribed UGC criteria.
Separate requirements are prescribed for Health Sciences and Nursing. Nursing candidates require a Master’s degree in Nursing with at least 55% marks and 10 years of teaching experience after M.Sc. Nursing.
Assistant Professor
For the specified disciplines, candidates require a Master’s degree with at least 55% marks in the concerned/relevant/allied subject and must have qualified UGC/CSIR NET, or possess a qualifying Ph.D. under the applicable UGC regulations, subject to the exemptions specified in the advertisement.
Candidates with qualifying foreign Ph.D. degrees from institutions ranked among the world’s top 500 under QS, THE or ARWU are also covered under the stated eligibility provision.
For Health Sciences, the advertisement specifies M.B.B.S. with M.D./M.S. in the listed specializations and the prescribed residency experience.

Application Process
The application is to be submitted online, followed by submission of the hard copy. The online application portal opens on 20 September 2026.
Candidates must submit the online application by 20 October 2026, or within 30 days from publication of the advertisement in Employment News, whichever is later.
After submitting the online application, candidates must take a printout and send it along with self-attested copies of the necessary certificates/documents through Registered Post/Speed Post. The hard copy should reach the prescribed address by 30 October 2026.
