Eligibility Criteria

General Eligibility

Candidates should be distinguished experts with significant contributions and proven expertise in their respective professions or fields, including:

  • Engineering and technology
  • Science
  • Entrepreneurship and commerce
  • Social sciences and media
  • Literature and fine arts
  • Civil services and armed forces
  • Legal professions
  • Community development and Panchayati Raj
  • Rural development and watershed management
  • Organic farming and small green-energy systems
  • Municipal planning and public administration
  • Other relevant professional fields

Candidates must have at least 15 years of service or experience, preferably at a senior level.

A formal academic qualification is not considered essential for this position when the candidate has exemplary professional experience. Candidates appointed under this category are exempt from the publication requirements and other eligibility criteria applicable to regular faculty recruitment, but must possess the skills necessary to perform the assigned duties.

Additional Eligibility for AICTE-Regulated Departments

For departments running programmes regulated by AICTE, the qualification and experience requirements prescribed in the Gujarat Government Resolution dated 14th October 2024 will also apply. These include the following indicative routes:

  • Ph.D. with 10 years of relevant experience in a large conglomerate.
  • Master’s degree with 15 years of relevant experience in a large conglomerate.
  • B.E./B.Tech. with 17 years of relevant experience in a large conglomerate.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline with five patents and five years of experience in a start-up.

A Ph.D. is desirable for guiding research scholars at the Ph.D. level but is not mandatory for teaching.

Disqualification: Persons currently in the teaching profession, whether serving or retired, are not eligible for engagement as Professor of Practice under the stated guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities

Selected candidates may be required to:

  1. Participate in developing and designing courses and curricula.
  2. Introduce new practice-oriented courses.
  3. Deliver lectures and participate in practical and project work.
  4. Encourage innovation and entrepreneurship and mentor students.
  5. Strengthen industry–academia collaboration.
  6. Conduct workshops, seminars, special lectures, and training programmes with regular faculty.
  7. Undertake joint research projects and consultancy services.
  8. Guide students in projects and dissertations and connect them with external stakeholders for internships and placements.

Tenure and Nature of Engagement

  • Initial engagement: One year.
  • The tenure may be extended up to a total of three years.
  • An additional extension of up to one year may be granted once for exceptionally good performance.
  • The appointment is fixed-term and does not confer any right to regular appointment, absorption, continuation, or seniority.
  • The engagement is not necessarily full-time.
  • Selected candidates are not eligible for service benefits, EPF, gratuity, or other perks apart from the fixed honorarium.
  • The engagement will not affect recruitment to regular faculty positions.

Honorarium and Travel Allowance

Honorarium: ₹2,000 per hour.

Travel reimbursement for university-related journeys will be provided according to the applicable Gujarat Government norms and prescribed mileage rates.

  • Motor car/jeep (petrol): ₹11 per km
  • Motor car/jeep (diesel): ₹10 per km
  • Motor car/jeep (CNG): ₹6 per km
  • Scooter/motorcycle: ₹2.50 per km
  • Other vehicles: ₹2.50 per km
  • Taxi/auto-rickshaw: At rates fixed by the State Government from time to time

Travel reimbursement is admissible only for journeys actually performed for university work and certified by the concerned Head of Department. No travel or daily allowance will be paid for attending the selection committee interview.
