Reservation for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) is applicable at 4%, according to Government of India norms. SVNIT is treated as one unit for reservation purposes.
Educational Qualifications
Candidates applying for Assistant Professor Grade-I must meet the following requirements:
- Ph.D. in the relevant discipline, with first class in the preceding degrees from the bachelor’s degree onwards.
- Fulfil the essential qualifications, experience, credit points and other requirements specified in Schedule E of the NIT Statute published in the Gazette of India on 24 July 2017.
- Hold degrees awarded by institutions recognised by UGC, AICTE, AIU or the Government of India.
- Foreign degrees are considered subject to the eligibility conditions stated in the recruitment notification.
- Where first class is not explicitly mentioned, a minimum of 6.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale or 60% aggregate marks is required, as specified in the notification.
- Candidates with a Ph.D. obtained directly after a four-year undergraduate engineering degree must submit the undertaking prescribed in Annexure III.
Minimum qualifications and desirable specialisation areas are provided in Annexure II of the official notification. The institute may also consider other areas of specialisation.
Experience Requirements
Relevant experience at the Assistant Professor level in Pay Level 10 or 11, or the corresponding earlier Academic Grade Pay levels, is considered subject to the notification’s conditions.
- Part-time, teaching assistant, visiting faculty and guest faculty experience will not be counted.
- Only experience exceeding six months in a regular position is considered, with supporting proof of duration, designation and pay scale.
- Eligible teaching and research experience may include specified centrally funded technical institutions, Institutions of National Importance, state-funded institutions and universities, eligible research laboratories, qualifying educational institutions and eligible foreign institutions.
- Industrial experience in a PSU or private industry with turnover exceeding ₹500 crore may be considered.
- Postdoctoral experience may be considered when it meets the specified institutional or fellowship criteria.
- Candidates who obtained their Ph.D. from SVNIT Surat must generally have a three-year gap between the Ph.D. notification date and the last date of online application. Existing SVNIT faculty are exempt from this condition.

Age Limit
Fresh appointments beyond 60 years of age are discouraged, except in cases involving exceptional research credentials and ongoing or approved externally funded research projects.
Salary and Pay Scale
Selected candidates will receive remuneration under Pay Level 12 of the Pay Matrix.

Selection Process
The selection process may include:
- Scrutiny of submitted applications.
- Shortlisting of eligible candidates.
