The Centre of German Studies, School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, has invited applications for Research Assistant and Field Investigator positions under an ICSSR-funded research project titled “Language Policy and Minority Languages in India: Comparison across States.”

A total of two positions are available, including one Research Assistant and one Field Investigator. Eligible candidates with backgrounds in Social Sciences, Linguistics, Modern Foreign Languages and related areas can apply by email. The last date to apply is 30 September 2026.

JNU Research Assistant Recruitment 2026

Position

Research Assistant – 01 Post

Salary

₹37,000 per month

No additional fringe benefits or allowances are admissible.

Tenure

The appointment will be from 01 October 2026 to 31 March 2027.

Essential Qualification

Candidates applying for the Research Assistant position should have:

  • A Postgraduate degree in any Social Science discipline with at least 55% marks.
  • Preference will be given to candidates holding an MA in Linguistics and/or a Modern Foreign Language.
  • Good understanding of:
    • Language policy research
    • Sociolinguistic theory
    • Theories of language learning and teaching
  • Excellent knowledge of Hindi and English, along with excellent knowledge of one or more of the following:
    • Telugu
    • Tamil
    • Kannada
    • Malayalam
  • Good IT skills.

Desirable Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • NET, M.Phil. or Ph.D. in the relevant subject area.
  • Knowledge or experience of big data and data-based research methods.
  • Willingness to travel for research-related work.
  • Publications related to language policy.

JNU Field Investigator Recruitment 2026

Position

Field Investigator – 01 Post

Salary

₹20,000 per month

No additional fringe benefits or allowances are admissible.

Tenure

The appointment will be from 01 October 2026 to 31 March 2027.

Essential Qualification

Applicants should have:

  • A Graduate degree in a relevant Social Science discipline with at least 55% marks.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with an MA and training in Linguistics and/or a Modern Foreign Language.
  • Good understanding of:
    • Language policy research
    • Sociolinguistic theory
    • Theories of language learning and teaching
  • Good IT skills.

Desirable Qualifications

Candidates with the following may be preferred:

  • Excellent knowledge of Telugu, Tamil, Kannada or Malayalam, in addition to Hindi and English.
  • Willingness to travel for research purposes.

The notification also indicates that the Field Investigator position may potentially be shared on a 50/50 basis with another candidate, subject to the project’s requirements.
