Professor of Practice – Eligibility
Candidates applying for the Professor of Practice position should have:
- At least 15 years of managerial or professional experience.
- Experience in a senior management or professional position such as:
- CEO
- CTO
- Vice President
- Director
- Comparable senior professional position
- At least a Master’s degree in Engineering, Sciences, Humanities or a related field.
Associate Professor of Practice – Eligibility
Candidates applying for the Associate Professor of Practice position should have:
- At least 10 years of managerial or professional experience.
- Relevant senior-level professional or managerial experience.
- At least a Master’s degree in Engineering, Sciences, Humanities or a related field.
A Ph.D. is desirable but not essential. Candidates without a Ph.D. may be considered if they demonstrate substantial domain expertise acquired through significant professional experience.
Desirable Professional Experience
Preference may be given to candidates with notable achievements or experience in areas including:
- Product design and development
- Project R&D
- Patented products
- Development of new applications, materials or processes
- Guiding internships or student projects
- Teaching at Centrally Funded Institutions
- Delivering undergraduate or postgraduate courses
- Experience at reputed universities or research institutions
- Work experience in national laboratories
- Fellowship of prestigious academies
- Research publications in SCI/WoS-indexed journals
- Granted patents
- Technology transfer
- Collaboration with funding agencies and research laboratories
- Revenue-generating consultancy
- Start-up or unicorn ecosystem experience
Candidates Without Ph.D.
Professionals without a Ph.D. may also be considered where they can demonstrate significant domain expertise through achievements such as:

Roles and Responsibilities
Selected Professors of Practice and Associate Professors of Practice may be expected to:
- Design and develop practice-oriented courses.
- Undertake teaching and instructional responsibilities assigned by the Institute.
- Advise students on projects and connect them with relevant external stakeholders.
- Mentor students in innovation and entrepreneurship projects.
- Contribute to the development of academic programmes and centres.
- Develop Continuing Education Programmes.
- Participate in outreach and extension activities.
- Strengthen industry-academia collaboration.
- Identify teaching and research opportunities with industry and government.
- Undertake academic and administrative responsibilities assigned by NIT Goa.
Salary and Tenure

The appointment may be extended for further periods following a review of performance and depending on institutional requirements. Leave and other benefits will be governed by applicable NIT Goa norms.
Age Limit
The maximum age limit is 70 years.
The Institute may also consider exceptional professionals who do not fulfil every prescribed criterion but have made significant contributions to teaching or their respective professional fields.
Nature of Appointment
- The positions are full-time.
- Selected candidates are required to physically move to and reside at NIT Goa during the appointment.
- These are non-regular, tenure-based practitioner positions.
- A Professor of Practice may be permitted to retain a lien on an industry position, subject to applicable conditions.
Selection Process
