About the Position
Indian Institute of Technology Jammu invites applications from eligible Indian nationals for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) under an ISRO-sanctioned research project. The selected candidate will work on NISAR-based geomorphological monitoring and modelling of dynamic Himalayan river systems.
The position is project-based and will initially be offered for 12 months. The appointment may be extended based on satisfactory performance and project requirements and will remain coterminous with the project.
Project Title
“Assessing the Efficacy of NISAR Observation for Enhanced Geomorphological Monitoring and Modeling of Dynamic Himalayan River System”
The project is sanctioned under NISAR-UP by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Essential Qualifications
Candidates must possess any one of the following qualifications:
- M.Sc. or M.Tech. in Remote Sensing or Geoinformatics.
- M.Tech. in Water Resources Engineering.
- M.Sc. in Geography with a thesis focused on Remote Sensing Applications, preferably involving hydrological applications.
- Any Master’s degree with expertise in SAR Imagery Processing.
Candidates must also have NET/GATE qualification in the relevant discipline.
Preferred Research Background
Preference may be given to candidates having academic or research experience in:
- Remote Sensing
- Geoinformatics
- SAR Imagery Processing
- Hydrological Applications
- Water Resources Engineering
- Geomorphological Monitoring
- Himalayan River Systems
Age Limit
- Maximum Age: 28 years
- SC/ST, Women and Persons with Disabilities: Relaxation up to 5 years
- OBC-NCL: Relaxation up to 3 years
Age relaxation will be applicable as per Government of India norms.
Fellowship
The selected Junior Research Fellow will receive:
₹37,000 per month + 18% HRA as applicable
Duration
The initial appointment will be for 12 months. The tenure may be extended subject to satisfactory performance and the continuation of the project.
The position is temporary, project-based and coterminous with the project.

Selection Process
